Mexico City, Magic Town and More Monarch Butterflies

One week OR five day tour option.

SATURDAY

Arrive at Mexico City airport (MEX).

Transfer to our hotel directly behind Mexico City’s cathedral only one block from the Zocalo.  You will have a chance to get out and stretch your legs after your flight and take a look around the city’s center.

Overnight in downtown Mexico City.

SUNDAY

Following a buffet breakfast we will set out on our city tour of Mexico City.

Music in the park, indigenous dancers, rich and fascinating history dating back to 1325 and all the hustle and bustle of family day makes Sunday the perfect day to be downtown Mexico City.

MONDAY

Today’s adventure will be to explore the world-renown archeological site Teotihuacan.  Historians estimate that as many of 200,000 people once inhabited this area.  Today it provides a snapshot of their vibrant culture and advanced engineering.

The pyramids of Teotihuacan rival those of Egypt.

Overnight in Mexico City.

TUESDAY

After a leisurely breakfast  we will leave the bustle of the city for the quiet of Cantalagua, a beautiful resort just north of the monarch butterfly sanctuaries.  The beautifully restored hacienda is a great place to unwind and begin to acclimatize to the increased elevation of the area.

Relax in one of the quiet courtyards, take a dip in the indoor pool and enjoy the walking trails or enjoy a delicious meal at the restaurant in preparation for your monarch sanctuary visits.

FIVE DAY ITINERARY BEGINS TODAY

Those joining us for a 5-day itinerary will meet up with the rest of the group at Cantalagua.

Overnight at Cantalagua.

WEDNESDAY

Today we will have our first butterfly experience! This is perhaps the most scenic sanctuary that we visit with some exceptional views of the entire monarch over-wintering area.

Local fare will be enjoyed at the sanctuary before setting out for Zitacuaro.

In the evening, we will take a stroll to downtown Zitacuaro.

Overnight in Zitacuaro.

THURSDAY

Our destination today is Cerro Pelon Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. After breakfast in town, we’ll venture into this relatively new sanctuary where we have experienced the most phenomenal butterfly showings.

When we come down off the mountain, Rosa and her family will invite us into their home for a fresh trout lunch.

After a casual lunch we will make our way to Valle de Bravo for overnight.

FRIDAY

Breakfast will be served overlooking the lake in Valle de Bravo.

You have two options today, either enjoy the unique shops and scenery of Valle de Bravo or visit a third butterfly sanctuary.

Our tour will end with a farewell dinner, giving opportunity to share our adventures and exchange addresses.

Overnight in Valle de Bravo.

SATURDAY

Return to Mexico City airport for the trip home.
