We are currently offering four tours that include visits to the monarch butterfly sanctuaries in both the states of Michoacan and the State of Mexico. Tours range from three to eight days. Although our tours are designed for all types of people, a moderate level of physical condition makes them considerably more enjoyable. We typically use 3 or 4-star hotels, depending on location and availability – but rest assured that we have selected the best possible lodging wherever we go. Each trip offers the opportunity to try local food – from fine dining in the city of Morelia to very traditional local cuisine in some of the smaller towns. Our policy since starting Rocamar Tours in 2001 is to use local guides at every location we visit. Whether it be trekking to the Paricutin Volcano or taking in the sites around the ‘Queen of Clonial Cities’ Morelia or riding horseback to the monarch butterfly sanctuaries, we are always accompanied by a local guide.
Our sea turtle migration tours came about a number of years after our monarch butterfly tours, os many of the same concepts were applied. Our guests get actively involved in the collection of sea turtle eggs, guiding sea turtles back to sea after laying their eggs and releasing young turtles in the wild. We do this with the friendly help and cooperation of local organizations. Most sea turtle-related activities happen at night, so there are a couple of very late nights during the week. Relaxing days on the beach follow, so no one gets too worn out. For our snorkeling day, Rocamar Tours provides all the necessary equipment. Guests can use this same equipment during their free beach time as well. As this tour finishes in Tlaquepaque, it offers a great opportunity to experience what many consider one of the cultural centers of the country. There are a number of restaurants and artisan shops to explore and plenty of sight seeing.
